Hello, your sporadically communicative diva here. Just letting you know I’m back home on the west coast, in front of my favorite computer (the one with the big screen and the Mac interface).
While on the east coast, I hooked up with old friends, including M.D.ers Vince Alonzo, Jean Jaworek, and Bruce Serlen. It was great to see them! Also while there, I got a call with old friend Rob Carey, who asked me to relay the following:
“Rob Carey is writing an article for a…

With more than 92,000 guest rooms and suites, Los Angeles is the fourth-largest lodging market in the United States. And there are no signs of slowing down the growth, with more hotel developments on the horizon. Meanwhile, many of LA’s tried-and-true properties are looking like new as they complete or embark on renovations, from basic remodels to extreme makeovers.
Renovations and upgrades to the Westin Bonaventure Hotel & Suites have helped the hotel become LA's first hotel to…

For those of you who have been following the fortunes (or, should I say, misfortunes) of the heretofore free Ning websites, do not fear for Meetings Diva. M.D. is already a paying website and will remain so after July 20, when all free Nings will either convert or be phased out.
As far as I’m concerned, Ning is a great platform, and their new pay-to-play plan will actually lower my costs. What does worry me is their advice to members on…

As any PBS station will tell you, member drives are a necessary evil. But necessary they are, if only to nudge people and let them know you’re still at it. This time, however, I remembered my netiquette and provided a way for people to opt out by replying with NO in the subject line. I did receive some NOs (which are going into a no-call list) but one guy NO’d twice, the second time more emphatically, “NO I AM MARRIED”. Huh.
Anyway, there are a lot of new people and they are so…

Yoicks! Down to the wire on my appearance at the Public Relations Society of America Travel Conference in Aspen, CO, May 25-28. My Topic: "Travel Is Economic Stimulus". So far, I’ve received advice from Kare Anderson and Joan Eisenstodt, but I could always do with some more! Email me at meetingsdiva@ymail.com

It’s a busy month. Right now, I’m counting down to my appearance at the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) 2010 Travel & Tourism Conference, taking place in Aspen, CO, May 25-28. I will be on a panel with my colleagues writer Marc Boisclair and Carolyn Koenig of Smart Meetings. Our topic is “Travel as Economic Stimulus” and, what with all the bad news out there (immigration, terrorists, oil spill,…

Every time I look at the “Members” headshots on the front page, I can’t get over how good-looking you all are. (Yes, this is sucking up, but I mean it.) Seeing such a smiling and accomplished crowd makes me happy to have started Meetings Diva.
On the down side, however, most of you are wall flowers! The community never hears from you. You could be marketing your services, selling your wares, asking for advice, or at least telling me off.
Let’s have a round of…

Where did Monday go? Oh well, never mind.
Woke up today to a notice from Ning, warning that my freemium days were numbered. This didn’t bother me, as I have always planned to monetize this site. In fact, I did just that – I’ve paid to have those random Google ads you see (which were placed by Ning) removed – then promptly replaced them with random Google ads that are working for me. What a difference (?!)
I also received a press release from my client, IMEX America, which…

As I was creating a new social community for a client, I had one of those lightbulb moments that seem so popular with PC users right now.
The network I was using was asking me if I wanted everybody to see the whole community, or just the front page. For this particular community, the public should have access to every page. But then I thought: Why not for Meetings Diva as well?
When I first launched Meetings Diva, I wanted people to be comfortable being frank, which is…

This week, I met up for lunch in Palm Springs with M.D. member Jenise Fryatt. We batted some ideas around. In fact, she suggested that I just start introducing members to each other (an idea so simple it had to be genius). Later on in the week, while on a press trip to the Renaissance Palm Springs (which you’ll read about in Convene) I unexpectedly ran into M.D. member Karen Brost. What a great week!
It was also an exciting week as The Diva’s sponsor, IMEX America, officially…

(Your Diva is temporarily blissed out by the healthcare
bill’s passing, so she will be brief.)
With the advent of spring, we should all be thinking about coming out of our shells and greeting the promise of the season. In social media terms, this means making new friends and new plans. So this week, why not
set yourself a goal of making one new friend inside the community?…
